Women in Professional Baseball
Thursday, July 24 at 7:00 pm in the LDL Program Room

By the fall of 1942, many minor league teams disbanded due to the war. Young men were being drafted into the armed services. The fear that this pattern would continue and that Major League Baseball Parks across the country were in danger of collapse is what prompted Philip K. Wrigley, the chewing-gum mogul and owner of Chicago Cubs' Major League Baseball, to search for a possible solution to this dilemma.  The result: Establish a girls' softball league to go into Major League parks should attendance fall due to franchises losing too many quality players to attract crowds. Listen to the behind-the-scene stories from these Baseball Hall of Fame players of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. Autographs and book signing.  Stevie’s book, Don’t Die on Third, will be available for $15.
