Curbside Pickup Service is here!

Curbside service is available Tuesdays  Fridays from 10:30 am – 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm – 5:30 pm, beginning June 23, 2020. We will be closed Friday, July 3, in observance of Independence Day. 

Know what items you want?

  • Request materials using our online catalog. If you are unable to use the catalog, please call the library at 616.850.6914. Staff will put your requested items on hold for you. You may place up to 25 holds on your library card.
  • Although an item may be listed as available or ON SHELF in the library catalog, it does take staff some time to retrieve the items and change their status to ON HOLDSHELF. We will move quickly, but please wait for a notification that your hold is ready before scheduling your pickup. If you’ve signed up for email notification, you’ll receive an email. If you’ve signed up for text alerts through Shoutbomb, you’ll receive a text inviting you to schedule a pickup time. Otherwise we’ll call you.
  • Once you receive a notification that your items are ready, please call 616.850.6910 to schedule a pickup time. Demand for curbside scheduling is high! If you are routed to voicemail, please leave a message and we will return your call as soon as possible. We are scheduling in 30-minute increments to avoid congestion in the parking garage. We will ask for your vehicle’s color, make, and model to ensure we deliver the correct items to you. Due to the length of time it takes to process items, we cannot deliver your items to you without a previously scheduled pickup time.
  • At your scheduled time, enter the enclosed parking garage from Fulton Street and park in any parking space closest to the door of the library. Please turn off your car and call the number listed on the signs (616.850.6927) to let us know you’ve arrived. Library staff will bring your materials to your car and place them in your trunk.
  • Please do not return items to staff at this time. You may place returns in our drop boxes. Returned items will be quarantined for 72 hours before being handled by staff and checked in. We are a fine-free library, so you do not need to worry about late fees.

Need suggestions?

Book bundles may be the solution for you! Since we are not allowing the public into the building yet, staff are creating bundles of popular items we think you might like! Browse through a selection of surprise books from the comfort of your home. Read what you enjoy and return what you don’t want, so others may enjoy the selections.

  • To select your book bundle, fill out our book bundle request form. If you are unable to complete the form, call 616.850.6914 and staff will assist you.
  • Each book bundle contains 5 items, based on the genre and reading level you select. Please limit your selections to one bundle a day per person in your household. For example, a family of four that uses one library card could request four bundles per day.
  • Please make sure to specify if you need large print or audiobooks, or if there is anything you would like us to look for or avoid in making selections. Not all books are right for everyone, and we’ll do our best to avoid any topics, authors, or content that you specify.
  • When your book bundle is ready, staff will call you to arrange a curbside pickup time. You may be able to pick up any holds you have placed at the same time you pick up your book bundle. Please let staff know if you already have a hold pickup scheduled.
  • Due to issues with our reserving and tracking software, we are unable to make Book Club in a Bag kits available through curbside delivery at this time. We look forward to supplying your book club with these titles once the library reopens again to the public.
