The library remains committed to developing the local history and genealogy collection and to providing expert assistance and quality resources to genealogists. The library is also committed to staff development and community involvement. Optimizing the open hours of the room will allow staff to better serve visiting genealogists and the community by devoting time to collection development, staff training, and community outreach.

Open hours for the Local History and Genealogy Room have been slightly reduced. It remains open seven days per week (six in the summer). However, genealogists will still be able to access online and print resources during times when the room is closed. Online resources, such as Ancestry, are always available for use in the Public Computing center on the lower level. Designs are being discussed that will bring this center upstairs to the main level within the next year. Print resources are available to genealogists at the Adult Information Desk by request. Genealogists who need expert assistance should make an appointment with Jeanette Weiden by calling 616.850.6925 or emailing jweiden@loutitlibrary.org.
