On Wednesday, August 15 at 7:00 pm, Tucson, AZ resident and quilt artist Mary Vaneecke will discuss the history of the Migrant Quilt Project and the humanitarian efforts surrounding it. The Migrant Quilt Project is a grassroots, collaborative effort of artists, quiltmakers, and activists to express compassion for migrants from Mexico and Central America who died in the Southern Arizona deserts on their way to create better lives for themselves and their families.
Materials used in the quilts were collected at migrant layup rest and shelter stops on established trails in the Sonoran Desert. Quilts will be on display throughout August in the library’s Upper Lobby. Visit migrantquiltproject.org for more information.
